Job Description

On behalf of our financial services client, Procom is searching for a Taxonomist for a 12-month role. This position is a hybrid position with 4 days onsite at our client’s Austin, TX office.

Taxonomist - Job Description:
The Taxonomist will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining enterprise taxonomies and controlled vocabularies across various content and data domains. The role involves implementing ontology and knowledge graph engineering to support AI, search, and analytics use cases, enabling knowledge creation and reuse within the organization.

Taxonomist - Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and maintain enterprise taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, and hierarchical classification systems
• Conduct content inventories and gap analyses to inform taxonomy structure
• Develop and enforce metadata schemas and tagging guidelines
• Design and implement ontologies using Semantic Web standards
• Develop and maintain knowledge graphs for AI, search, and analytics use cases
• Partner with teams to implement standardized vocabularies and semantic models
• Develop and manage taxonomy and ontology governance processes

Taxonomist - Mandatory Skills:
• 5-7+ years in taxonomy design, ontology engineering, or knowledge management
• Experience designing and governing enterprise-scale taxonomies
• Proficiency with Semantic Web standards: RDF/RDFS, OWL, SKOS, SPARQL, SHACL
• Experience with knowledge graphs or ontology-backed data models
• Familiarity with metadata schema standards (Dublin Core, Schema.org)
• Background in data modeling methodologies
• Experience with industry ontology frameworks

Taxonomist – Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Familiarity with AI-adjacent knowledge representation
• Experience with localization or multilingual taxonomy design
• Exposure to Agile or DevSecOps practices
• Experience with authority control or identity management
• Proficiency in Python, R, or equivalent scripting
