Job Description

BMO is currently sourcing for a AWS Developer - Intermediate.
This is a hybrid contract role in Toronto (2 days in office per week).

Role Overview:
This role supports the development and maintenance of cloud-native applications within BMO’s Banking and Credit Technology Applications line of business. The developer will work on designing scalable backend services and full-stack web applications leveraging AWS technologies. The position contributes to business-as-usual (BAU) projects, enhancing operational efficiency and technology modernization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications on AWS.
  • Build backend services using Java and implement scalable APIs (REST/GraphQL) leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, RDS/DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Cognito, and CloudFront.
  • Develop responsive and dynamic user interfaces using React and Angular.
  • Integrate front-end applications with backend services and AWS infrastructure.
  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code; establish unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Apply secure coding practices including authentication, authorization, and secrets management following AWS and OWASP best practices.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and follow best practices for cloud deployments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 8+ years of development experience with Java.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with HTML, SCSS/CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with AWS services including Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, SQS, and CDK.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (ECS/EKS).
  • Knowledge of REST API integration.
  • Understanding of frontend testing, debugging, and browser performance.
  • Experience with Git, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as AWS CodePipeline or similar.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Knowledge of security best practices in AWS.
  • Experience using AI tools for coding and automation.
  • Banking or financial industry experience.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to translate user needs into technical specifications and facilitate technical requirements.
  • Experience working independently on complex tasks and unique situations.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to improve processes.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with a collaborative team culture.

Qualifications

Java: 8 - 10 years (Required)
full-stack web applications on AWS: 5 - 10 years (Required)
REST API integration: 8 - 10 years (Required)
