Job Description

BMO is currently sourcing for a Specialized Developer. This is a hybrid contract role in Toronto (2 days in office per week).

Role Overview:

This role supports the development and enhancement of business-critical components within the Global Trading Solutions Electronic FX (EFX) Trading Platform. The position involves designing and maintaining low-latency trading systems using C# .NET, leading migration of backend services, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and business continuity. The work directly impacts the performance, scalability, and reliability of the trading platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop robust software solutions for GTS’s trading systems.
  • Devise new algorithms and data structures aligned with architectural patterns.
  • Create thorough test cases to ensure software stability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with other teams to research and implement changes to the trading system.
  • Communicate with operations teams about new features and existing strategy behaviors.
  • Support production issues, including root-cause analysis and diagnosis.
  • Process business requirements with minimal guidance and execute implementation proposals.
  • Mentor junior developers.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 7+ years of professional C# .NET development experience.
  • Strong expertise in optimizing software performance and reducing latency.
  • Familiarity with the FIX protocol.
  • Strong multi-threaded programming skills.
  • Understanding of financial markets and electronic trading systems.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science.
  • Familiarity with Broadway FX.
  • Experience with Java.
  • Former experience in financial institutions or BMO.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience leading migration of backend utility services from vendor-supported to in-house solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team of developers.
  • Experience supporting production trading systems with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly explain technical concepts to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Familiarity with Broadway FX: 3 - 5 years (Desired)
C# .NET development experience: 7 - 7 years (Required)
