Clinical Informatics Lead Job Details

PHSA is looking for a Clinical Informatics consultant to lead as part of the Digital Referrals and Orders project, the implementation of digital referrals and orders. The Clinical Informatics consultant will work within a high performing team and collaborate with health care providers and other stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, Health Authorities, Doctors of BC, and vendors.

The Clinical Informatics consultant role will be responsible but not limited to:
  • Provide clinical leadership in current and future state workflow mapping, gap analysis, and clinical/functional requirements related to referrals, orders and/or consults for private and public providers.
  • Establish program best practices and standards to guide the successful implementation and continued use of services offered.
  • Provide clinical informatics leadership when participating in business and clinical systems reviews and needs assessments for referrals, orders or consults.
  • Facilitate working groups composed of clinical and administrative professionals to document workflows and functional requirements for provincial eReferral, eConsult or eOrders.
  • Inform the development of enhancements for product improvements guided by clinical use or related best practices.
  • Identify and mitigate clinical issues and risks associated with the successful design, build, launch, and sustainability of referrals, consults, and orders.
  • Recommend strategic improvements that support large-scale system engagement and optimal platform use.
  • Collaborate with partners to assess needs and establish system wide practice and workflow change initiatives, practice innovation and redesign, and documentation standards.
  • Lead the development and adoption of organizational and clinical change management processes as they relate to referrals and orders and clinical practice process redesign
  • Work with providers and support staff to encourage adoption and meaningful use of digital referrals and orders
  • Support provider onboarding as required
  • Develop content with digital data collection standards in mind, aligning with national and provincial standards, and business requirements.
  • Assess the requirements for high-impact analytics reports and measures to monitor progress, and work with the clinical communities to encourage adoption and use for improved clinical outcomes

 

Clinical Informatics Lead Mandatory Skills
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in nursing or health sciences Profession supplemented with seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in leading and coordinating major provincial clinical informatics or quality improvement initiatives in large, complex health care environments.
Required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to lead a diverse stakeholder group through complex discussions, build consensus, and negotiate solutions
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of clinical practice and workflows in healthcare delivery
  • Previous clinical experience in the areas of primary care, electronic medical records, clinical information systems, digital referrals, and orders
  • Experience leading or supervising teams in the design and implementation of a comprehensive clinical informatics initiative for a provincial healthcare ecosystem
  • Working knowledge of clinical services, information technology and healthcare systems
  • Ability to effectively navigate and deliver results in a large and complex environment
  • Strong forward thinking, analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment to build and maintain positive working relationships with vendor staff and external consultants will be key success factors in this role
  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize and complete multiple tasks with strong time management skills to meet project deadlines
  • It is critical that the Clinical Informatics Specialist have the ability to deal with and resolve politically sensitive issues, which may result in a high impact to the organization. This role requires someone with superlative clinical informatics knowledge and experience, strong leadership, and communication skills

Preference given to consultants who have the following:
  • Current registration and membership in good standing with the applicable provincial college and/or association.
  • Working knowledge and experience with agile as well as waterfall project management concepts practices, and deliverables
  • A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development
  • Significant experience in the application of change management tools and methodologies
