Commissioning Engineer - Mission Critical Data Center Construction
(Dallas-Fort Worth area)

About the Role
The Commissioning Engineer leads commissioning activities for mission critical construction projects and reports to the Director of Construction. This role coordinates and oversees all aspects of planning, staffing, scheduling, quality, safety, and testing during the commissioning phase. The Commissioning Engineer ensures all work follows approved procedures and all equipment performs to design requirements, working hand in hand with internal teams and consultants to plan, schedule, and execute project commissioning plans.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end commissioning and delivery of construction projects, verifying a smooth transition to facility operations teams
- Manage site-specific L1 through L5 commissioning processes for all new build and expansion projects
- Lead multiple disciplines in a project-specific commissioning plan, including review and verification of systems design, installation, functional performance, and reliability
- Build collaborative working relationships with architects, engineers, trade partners, and facility operations teams to streamline delivery and ensure a fully compliant project
- Work with the General Contractor, Commissioning Agent, and internal team to create and integrate start-up and commissioning schedules into the overall project schedule
- Analyze project schedules and provide monthly reporting covering potential delays, critical path analysis, and optimization opportunities; develop risk assessment models and flag key risks to budget and schedule
- Partner with project managers and contractors to monitor performance against schedule targets and identify areas for improvement
- Manage the RFP process for all commissioning projects, from creation through award
- Manage documentation and recordkeeping for all project equipment and materials, including the equipment database
- Oversee development of project closeout documentation
- Facilitate weekly punch list and open item meetings with vendors, trade partners, and commissioning agents through resolution
- Establish and manage a punch list prevention plan and track commissioning deficiencies with the project team
- Facilitate commissioning-related onboarding of new trade partners, vendors, and consultants
- Enforce company practices across the commissioning team, including subcontractors and vendors, with a focus on safety and on-site performance
- Review design documents and specifications against company standards
- Monitor electrical, mechanical, fire alarm, fire protection, and controls subcontractors for schedule and conformance to contract documents
- Participate in design and construction reviews and provide technical input on cost-effective, schedule-efficient construction methods
- Review project submittals, including start-up and commissioning procedures from vendors and consultants (OFCI equipment, CFCI equipment, sequences of operations, and similar)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years leading commissioning in mission critical facilities
- Able to interpret contract documents, owner project requirements, drawings, specifications, system schematics, sequences of operations, MEP scopes of work, and project schedules
- Experience developing, implementing, and overseeing commissioning plans, scripts, and procedures
- Knowledge of NETA guidelines and standards
- Thorough knowledge of mission critical construction technology, equipment, materials, and methods
- Well-rounded knowledge of MEP systems and construction processes across all trades
- Experience with Building Management Systems, including environmental controls and Electrical Power Management Systems
- Experience with access control and CCTV systems
- Experience with construction cost forecasting, accrual reporting, pay applications, and construction scheduling and planning
- Proficiency with scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, and scheduling assessment methods such as DCMA 14
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Physically able to climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders, use construction personnel hoists, and navigate active construction areas
