Job Description

The Superintendent, Earthworks is a field-based position accountable for overseeing the planning and execution of earthwork projects with a focus on safety, cost, schedule, and quality.  The Superintendent manages front line supervisors and reports into the Calgary Project Manager.

Responsiblities include, but are not limited to:

 Safety

  • Foster the Cenovus safety culture with our front-line supervisors and vendors
  • Confirm vendors meet or exceed all requirements with respect to safety qualifications and practices as outlined in the Cenovus vendor expectations
  • Stewardship meetings on a weekly/monthly with front-line supervisors and vendors
  • Collaborate with the Cenovus Safety team to perform vendor assurance activities as required

 Management/Leadership

  • Organize, coordinate, and supervise the work of the front-line supervisors managing abilities or specialized training; manage shifts according to work priorities.

Project Management

  • Understand the Cenovus safe work practices and procedures and implement into design standards and specifications
  • Coordinate overall project requirements (contracts, specifications, designs, estimates)
  • Develop and review estimates for all labour, equipment and materials utilizing Siteview, long-term assumptions (LTA’s) and scouting reports
  • Scout new and existing projects, capturing and documenting all required scope
  • Respond in a timely manner to emails, phone calls, meeting requests, etc. to fully support operational function of the earthworks group
  • General understanding of Cenovus and industry environmental and regulatory guidelines and standards, anticipating impacts and how they may impact project deliverables
  • Support lookback sessions with required information and implement lessons learned into future designs as required, striving for improvement opportunities
  • Quality control - ensure the work meets or exceed Cenovus standards while proactively seeking improvements on processes and construction techniques

 Communication

  • Responsible for ensuring effective use of Siteview for reporting, data management and cost control
  • Create effective presentation materials as required to portray earthworks project details on safety, cost, schedule and quality.
  • Provide scenario-based solutions to the asset for effective and timely decision making

 

Qualifications

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to be a safety leader and remain proficient in all crucial conversations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of oil and gas regulations, codes, standards and industry best practices
  • Familiar with upstream oil & gas operations
  • Proven familiarity with workflows of drilling, completions and earthworks
  • Ability to interpret drawings and equipment spacing guidelines
  • Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Flexible to changing work demands and priorities

Qualifications

Leading People: 15 - 20 years (Required)
Oil & Gas Industry Experience: 20 - 25 years (Required)
