Job Description
Cenovus is seeking an experienced IT Project Controls Analyst to join our IT Strategy & Performance team on a 12-month contract. This role is ideal for a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with strong financial acumen and experience supporting IT project delivery.
As a key partner to Project Managers, Portfolio Leaders, Finance, and Vendor Management teams, you will help ensure effective financial management, governance, forecasting, resource administration, and reporting across a diverse portfolio of technology initiatives.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to strategic Data & IT projects while working within a collaborative and fast-paced environment that supports enterprise-wide business transformation.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Financial Management & Forecasting
- Support project budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across the IT portfolio.
- Execute monthly, quarterly, annual, and long-range planning processes, including reconciliation, accrual management, variance analysis, and reporting.
- Maintain and update Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with financial analysis and reporting to support project and portfolio decision-making.
- Provide financial inputs for Project Approval Requests (PARs) and investment governance activities.
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets and forecasts.
Project Controls & Governance
- Support project governance activities and ensure required project artifacts are maintained and compliant with established standards.
- Assist Project Managers with change management activities, including preparation of Change Requests and impact assessments related to schedule, scope, resources, and budget.
- Monitor project schedules and identify variances against approved baselines.
- Support project status reporting and portfolio performance updates.
- Coordinate project documentation, approvals, and records management activities.
Resource & Vendor Administration
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities for project resources.
- Manage contractor setup and time-entry administration within Fieldglass.
- Review and validate project timesheets and resource allocations.
- Support project-related purchasing activities and vendor engagement processes.
- Liaise with Vendor Management Office (VMO), Procurement, Finance, and vendors to support contracts, purchase orders, invoicing, and payment processing.
- Track Statements of Work, goods receipts, invoice approvals, and project-related expenditures.
Systems & Reporting
- Maintain project cost plans, forecasts, and project records within ServiceNow.
- Process and validate transactions through SAP, ServiceNow, Salesforce VRM, OpenInvoice, and other enterprise systems.
- Support SharePoint and Microsoft Teams administration, including document management, approvals, logs, and collaboration sites.
- Generate and maintain project financial and resource reporting using Excel and Power BI.
- Identify opportunities to improve project controls processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
What You'll Bring
Required Experience
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, forecasts, accruals, and project financial reporting.
- Experience working with project governance processes and project delivery methodologies.
Technical Skills
Experience with the following tools and platforms is considered an asset:
