Contract Maintenance Support Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Support Technician is a generalist performing a wide range of tasks in the Maintenance Department as well as providing vacation coverage for the Material Handling positions in Grain receiving and DDGS loading. In the Maintenance Department the incumbent assists other journeymen technicians as assigned in maintenance work orders and provides support with mobile equipment operation. He/she receives and unloads chemicals, materials and equipment into the warehouse. He/she also is accountable for keeping the warehouse organized and tidy. The incumbent may also be assigned general maintenance tasks around the plant like painting, erecting signs, street sweeping using mechanized sweepers, mowing the grass using riding mowers, sanding and snow removal when the need arises using the “Bobcat” and some small carpentry tasks. The incumbent also provides support for picking up parts and equipment when the need arises and mail daily using the company trucks and vehicles.

This is one of several positions reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. The other positions include millwright, pipe fitting, welding, instrumentation and electrical trades.

This position requires competency in using forklifts and front-end loaders. It also requires an individual with mechanical aptitude. Given the broad range of tasks involved, this position requires an individual capable of organizing and prioritizing their time and handling multiple tasks in any given day.

Essential Responsibilities include:
*Demonstrates a high degree of safety awareness. Follow and enforce Cenovus HSE standards on all the maintenance tasks he/she is involved in. This includes an active involvement in the permitting/lock outs to ensure safety on jobs being worked on. Also active involvement in the Plant safety programs like conducting quality safety STOP audits regularly.
*Operate Mobile equipment: forklifts for moving and storing various parts, equipment or chemicals (this includes assisting the Maintenance Stores Coordinator in receiving and shipping); a skid steer for road sanding or snow removal; a ride on mower, a street sweeper, etc.
*Handyman tasks such as minor carpentry, painting, hanging and maintaining signs, fire extinguisher etc.
*Delivering mail in the plant and off-site pickups or deliveries in Minnedosa, Brandon or Winnipeg.
*Material Handling vacation relief for receiving grain and loading DDGS. This coverage is normally planned in advance for a week or two at a time. He/she assists with the receiving grain, grading, binning and issuing receipts for grain deliveries according to accepted standards and procedures while maximizing throughput. For DDGS shipments, he/she will assist in loading, and issuing bill of ladings.
*As the need arises, assist other trades in our self-directed work environment.

Knowledge:
*Excellent knowledge of operating mobile equipment. Good general carpentry skills (including the safe use of small power tools). Grain handling skills would be an asset.

Skills & Abilities:
*General computer skills are required.

Education:
*Minimum Grade 12
*No formal certificates required
*Valid Class 5 Driver's License
