Job Description
The Quality Assurance (QA) Field Inspector will support the Quality Assurance Manager/Lead in various projects, focusing on ensuring compliance with quality standards, safety regulations, and best practices. The role involves active participation in quality assurance activities within the CMT (Construction Management Team) and includes collaboration with contractors and project teams to promote a culture of safety and quality.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance Support
- Engage with Contractor QC personnel and all members of CCMT (safety, supervision, leadership, SCM, etc.) regularly to maintain open communication
- Fully understand the scope of work (SOW) for assigned projects
Documentation and Compliance
- Review Contractors' Quality Manuals and practices, auditing for continual compliance and communicating results to CCMT members
- Review and accept Contractors' Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) prior to commencing work; audit for compliance and communicate results to CCMT members
- Monitor and audit Contractor quality of work for adherence to Cenovus specifications and industry codes/best practices through field surveillance, providing documented Quality Surveillance Reports as necessary
Field Surveillance and Monitoring
- Witness critical tasks and complete applicable documentation, including but not limited to:
Mechanical

- Pressure equipment inspections, hydro and pneumatic testing
- Torquing of mechanical and electrical connections
Electrical
-
- Crimping of critical equipment and cable connections
- Torquing of electrical connections
- Electrical insulation testing for major feeder cables
Civil/Structural/Coatings
-
- Excavation and backfill, and concrete works.
- Bolt tensioning
- Applied coating/insulation
- Identify inconsistencies and discrepancies noted in the field and associated drawings, communicating with the applicable CMT Field Tech for resolution
- Ongoing verification of Contractor performance against the accepted ITP and execution plan
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with CCMT members to support the completion of Project & Contractor readiness exercises
- Attend and actively participate in meetings (Contractor Onboard & Performance) to present quality-related issues and concerns
Continuous Improvement
- Identify lessons learned supported by potential corrective actions and present them to CCMT members for consideration in future work
- Provide ongoing feedback on Cenovus forms, details, and specifications to ensure continuous improvement
- Maintain knowledge of deficiencies associated with the scope and the Master Deficiency List, working with CCMT members to close out these deficiencies
Reporting
- Provide written daily reports to CCMT summarizing QA activities, risks, issues, or concerns
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, Certifications in relevant field or equivalent experience in quality assurance
- Familiarity with QA methodologies, industry standards, and best practices
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
