Job Description
BMO is currently sourcing for a Data Governance Consultant - Records Retention to support the Records Management Program. This is a hybrid contract role in Toronto (4 days in office per week).
Role Overview:
The Data Governance – Records Management Consultant is responsible for designing and overseeing the organization's Records Retention Program, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policies regarding business records. This position collaborates with various business units and technical teams to maintain record inventories, enforce retention policies, and support regulatory inquiries, thereby enhancing the organization’s data governance framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and apply records retention policies and regulatory requirements across business units.
- Support the maintenance and improvement of the Records Management Program, including procedures and control monitoring.
- Work with business units to clarify roles in record management and retention practices.
- Partner with technology teams to ensure retention schedules are properly integrated into data systems.
- Participate in retention risk monitoring and recommend process improvements to mitigate risks.
- Track and address gaps in compliance, escalating issues to relevant executives.
- Facilitate training and onboarding related to records retention policies.
Must-Have Skills:
- 5–8+ years of experience in records management, information governance, compliance, or data governance within a regulated environment (financial services preferred).
- Proven ability to develop and implement a Records Management program in a large organization.
- Strong understanding of records management principles and data lifecycle management.
- Experience with retention schedules, archival systems, and deletion processes.
- Proficiency in interpreting regulatory requirements and translating them into operational processes.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with top 5 banking institutions.
- Exposure to Capital Markets.
Ideal Candidate:
- Demonstrates advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Experienced in stakeholder management in a matrixed environment involving legal, compliance, and technology partners.
- Holds a bachelor's degree in Information Management, Library Sciences, Business, Data Governance, or a related field.
