DevOps Platform Engineer (Kubernetes Expert)Position Overview
Procom is seeking a highly skilled DevOps Platform Engineer with deep Kubernetes expertise to support the design, deployment, automation, and operation of mission-critical cloud and container platforms within Government of Canada environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for building scalable, resilient, and secure containerized infrastructure while enabling continuous delivery and platform modernization initiatives.
Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid/On-Site)
Security Clearance: Secret or Top-Secret Clearance Required
Contract Duration: 5 Years + 5-Year Option Period (Up to 10 Years Total)

Responsibilities
-Drive long-term business value by aligning Kubernetes platform roadmaps with product delivery goals, ensuring infrastructure never becomes a bottleneck for innovation.
-Future-proof the organization by implementing robust disaster recovery, multi-cluster failover strategies, and proactive security (DevSecOps) to mitigate downtime and data risks.
-Advise on the adoption of cloud-native patterns (like GitOps or Serverless) to accelerate time-to market and embrace digital transformation.
-Simplify the enterprise landscape by enforcing standardized "Golden Paths" for deployment, reducing cognitive load for developers while lowering operational overhead.
-Analyze cluster utilization and cloud spend to implement FinOps practices, ensuring the Kubernetes footprint is both high-performing and cost-efficient.
-Establish automated guardrails and policy-as-code to ensure the technology landscape remains compliant without manual intervention.
-Manage Kubernetes Cluster, design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable Kubernetes clusters on [Cloud Provider, e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure] or on-premises infrastructure.
-Ensure cluster security, monitoring, and logging are properly configured and maintained.
-Develop and maintain containerized applications and Kubernetes, including creating container images, and defining Kubernetes deployments, services, and pods.
-Implement automated build, test, and deployment pipelines using tools like GitLab CI/CD, or similar.
-Manage Kubernetes resources, including pods, services, deployments, and persistent volumes, to ensure efficient use of cluster resources.
-Implement resource quotas, limits, and requests to ensure proper resource allocation and utilization.
-Design and implement monitoring and logging solutions for Kubernetes clusters and applications, including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar.
-Develop and maintain dashboards and alerts to notify teams of issues and performance degradation.
Required Qualifications
Senior Platform Engineer
-University undergraduate degree or College Diploma in Computer Science or Engineering (Computer engineering or Software engineering), from a recognized program in Canada and ten (10) years of progressive experience in IT.
-Minimum 5 -7 years of experience working with Kubernetes in a production environment, with a strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, components, and ecosystem.
-Strong knowledge of Linux and containerization using Docker, including Docker file creation, container image management, and container networking.
-Experience with Kubernetes deployment tools, such as kubectl, kustomize, or skaffold.
-Familiarity with cloud providers, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and their respective Kubernetes offerings (e.g., EKS, GKE, AKS).
-Strong understanding of Linux, networking, and storage fundamentals.
-Experience with monitoring and logging tools, such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar.
-Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a Kubernetes environment.
Intermediate Platform Engineer
-University undergraduate degree or College Diploma in Computer Science or Engineering (Computer engineering or Software engineering), from a recognized program in Canada and five (5) years of progressive experience in IT.
-Minimum 2 years of experience working with Kubernetes in a production environment, with a strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, components, and ecosystem.
-Strong knowledge of Linux and containerization using Docker, including Docker file creation, container image management, and container networking.
-Experience with Kubernetes deployment tools, such as kubectl, kustomize, or skaffold.
-Familiarity with cloud providers, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and their respective Kubernetes offerings (e.g., EKS, GKE, AKS).
-Strong understanding of Linux, networking, and storage fundamentals.
-Experience with monitoring and logging tools, such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar.
-Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a Kubernetes environment.
