Director, Sustainability Controls and Governance:
On behalf of our Banking client, Procom is searching for a Director, Sustainability Controls and Governance for a 5-month role. This position is a hybrid position with 3-4 days onsite at our client’s Toronto office.
Director, Sustainability Controls and Governance - Job Description:
The project involves working with disclosure/content owners of the bank’s Sustainability Report to review and assess the effectiveness of their controls to mitigate sustainability reporting risk. The role focuses on enhancing stakeholders' control environment and ensuring adherence to the bank’s risk management policies and standards, with reporting of control findings to senior management.
Director, Sustainability Controls and Governance - Responsibilities:
• Build and implement a sustainability control framework to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Establish a clear governance structure with defined mandates and integrated second line.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors on sustainability reporting issues.
• Elevate risk and control knowledge across sustainability stakeholders through training and education.
• Ensure alignment with CFO’s evolving controls framework for standardized processes.
• Support and maintain strong governance over sustainability reporting.
• Implement process improvements and new reporting tools for the bank’s Sustainability Reports.
• Assess controls and governance impacts from new sustainability-related disclosure requirements.
• Identify trends, risks, and issues for actionable improvements to the controls environment.
• Assist in preparing sustainability-related materials for senior executives and committees.
• Support other CCO initiatives and participate in ad-hoc projects as directed.
Director, Sustainability Controls and Governance - Mandatory Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, WebEx teams, and Sharepoint.
• Knowledge of risk and controls, including identification and remediation of control gaps.
• University degree in a related field with 10+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with cross-functional teams in large-scale transformation.
• Strong communication, leadership, and relationship management skills.
• Deep knowledge of financial metrics, operational risk, governance, and regulatory policies.
• Strategic business acumen with proven project and business execution skills.
Director, Sustainability Controls and Governance – Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
• Certified Internal Auditor designation.
• Certification related to ESG and Sustainability areas.
• Understanding of financial institutions and RBC’s business activities.
• Familiarity with sustainability-related frameworks like TCFD, ISSB, SASB, GRI, CSRD.

This is a 5-month contract position.
