Job Description

The Fire System Inspector is responsible for performing inspections, testing, and compliance verification of fire protection systems to ensure safety, reliability, and adherence to applicable codes and standards.

This role is hands-on and field-based, requiring a detail-oriented professional who can accurately assess system performance, identify deficiencies, and communicate clear recommendations to clients. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently while maintaining a high standard of quality, safety, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and functional testing of fire protection systems, including fire alarm systems
  • Conduct testing, compliance checks, and acceptance testing in accordance with applicable standards
  • Document inspection results, deficiencies, and repairs following NFPA guidelines and internal protocols
  • Generate accurate, detailed inspection reports using company-provided tools
  • Identify system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance
  • Communicate findings and next steps clearly with clients and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes, including NFPA 72
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in proper working condition
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols on job sites

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred
  • Experience in fire system inspection, testing, or a related field preferred
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET Level I or II certification (Inspection & Testing of Fire Alarm Systems and/or Water-Based Systems)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • State-specific fire alarm or sprinkler licenses (where applicable)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods
