Full Stack Engineer – Capital Markets (React + Java)

Job Description

BMO is currently sourcing for a Specialized Developer. This is a remote contract role.

Role Overview:

This role supports the Capital Markets line of business by delivering full stack development solutions primarily using React and Java technologies. The developer will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of scalable applications and APIs, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical standards. The position impacts business efficiency and innovation through the delivery of high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain front-end applications using React, JavaScript (ES6+), and TypeScript.
• Design and implement backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
• Translate business requirements into detailed design specifications and code.
• Conduct unit testing and support production issue troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define and deliver technical solutions that meet business needs.
• Lead initiatives to improve development frameworks, standards, and operational efficiency.
• Review code and provide technical guidance to team members as needed.

Must-Have Skills:

• 3-6 years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, and React.
• Proficient in Java development and backend frameworks such as Spring Boot.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and integrating APIs within React applications.
• Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design principles.
• Familiarity with unit testing frameworks like JUnit, Jest, or React Testing Library.
• Experience with Git and source control best practices.
• Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software engineering principles.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting production applications.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with automation to streamline technological processes.
• Exposure to mentoring or building communities of practice.
• Knowledge of industry technical and business trends.

Ideal Candidate:

• Ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience leading development initiatives and conducting independent strategic analysis.
• Proven track record of building scalable, supportable software solutions aligned with architectural patterns.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess costs and benefits of different technical solutions.
