Senior Consultant (Networking & OpenShift Virtualization)

Assignment Details

• Duration: 2-month contract, highly likely to extend
• Location: Remote
• Onboarding: About 3-4 weeks expected, so fill as soon as possible
• Screening: Background check including fingerprinting for US candidates
• Work Authorization: W2 only (no C2C, no sponsorship)

Must-Haves

• Hands-on OpenShift Virtualization / Kubernetes networking: OVN-Kubernetes, Multus/NADs, NMState, SR-IOV Operator, MetalLB, UDN/CUDN, NetworkPolicy
• VM networking and live migration: bridge vs. masquerade binding, multi-NIC, VLAN/subnet design, MTU tuning, IPAM/MAC management
• VMware-to-OpenShift migration (vSphere/NSX to NAD/localnet via MTV)
• Solid network fundamentals: L2/L3, VLANs, BGP/OSPF, VXLAN, spine-leaf, Linux networking (bonds, bridges, namespaces)
• End-to-end troubleshooting (tcpdump, Wireshark, OVS flow tracing)
• Consulting in regulated environments (finance, healthcare, government) with strong documentation (ADRs, runbooks, playbooks)

Nice-to-Haves

• Cisco experience (preferred); multi-vendor welcome
• Automation experience
• Certifications: RHCE, EX280, DO316, DO282, CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, CKA

Detailed Qualifications
Networking Fundamentals

• Hands-on L2/L3 network engineering: VLANs, routing, physical switch integration
• Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, static routing, route redistribution
• Linux networking: bridges, bonds (LACP/active-backup), namespaces, iptables/nftables, policy-based routing
• Packet-path troubleshooting via tcpdump, Wireshark, and OVS flow tracing
• SR-IOV / hardware offload: VF/PF configuration, IOMMU, BIOS/firmware prerequisites for NIC passthrough
• Network security design: firewall zones, east-west/north-south policy, micro-segmentation
• Spine-leaf / Clos fabric design principles
• VXLAN overlay networking
• Data center interconnect (DCI): stretching L2/L3 across sites
• Top-of-Rack (ToR) / End-of-Row (EoR) switch architecture

OpenShift & Kubernetes Networking (including Virtualization)

• OVN-Kubernetes architecture (NB/SB DBs, logical switches/routers, overlay vs. localnet)
• UDN/CUDN for tenant network isolation; EVPN for L2/L3 extension across physical/virtual boundaries
• Cross-cluster connectivity and multi-cluster service/pod reachability
• Multus CNI and NetworkAttachmentDefinitions for multi-homed pod/VM networking
• NMState Operator: declarative host networking (NNCP), bond/bridge/VLAN, rollback
• SR-IOV Network Operator: VF allocation, device plugin for DPDK/latency-sensitive workloads
• MetalLB (BGP/L2), NetworkPolicy/AdminNetworkPolicy, eBPF-based Network Observability
• VM networking: bridge vs. masquerade binding, hot-plug/multi-NIC, secondary attachments
• Live migration architecture: VLAN/subnet design, bandwidth sizing, MTU/policy tuning

• Experience delivering consulting engagements in regulated enterprise environments (financial services, healthcare, government)
• Strong documentation and knowledge transfer skills: architecture decision records, runbooks, and operational playbooks
• Ability to work across network engineering, platform/infrastructure, security, and application development teams
