Project Controls Analyst:
On behalf of our client, Procom is searching for a Project Controls Analyst for a contract role running from 10/01/2026 to 12/31/2027. This is an onsite position based at our client's Base Plant site, via Hwy 63 N of Fort McMurray, Tar Island, Alberta.
Project Controls Analyst - Job Description:
We are seeking a Project Controls Analyst to coordinate changes in project controls, systems, and procedures across projects of increasing complexity. The successful candidate will develop independent cost estimates under $100M, maintain project schedules across all phases, and support project closeout, benchmarking, and cost reporting.
Project Controls Analyst - Responsibilities:
- Coordinate changes in project controls, systems and procedures with increasing complexity
- Develop estimates less than $100M independently, in line with Business Objective, Scope, Schedule Class of Plant and "Best-In-Class"
- Update and maintain project schedules for all phases of a project with increasing complexity
- Maintain solid understanding of planning processes, including resource loaded schedules, tracking and reporting, and Progress/Performance
- Assist in audits of engineering and construction processes
- Facilitate project setup in a proper format to support project closeout and benchmarking
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Project Cost Management Systems, including ongoing continuous improvement of the Cost Management systems
- Initiate preparation, consolidation and analysis of project reports, responsible for overall accuracy, completeness and timeliness
- Compare planned, incurred, actual, and forecast hours and costs, explaining variances
- Assist in preparation of potential costs and make judgments regarding change orders and extra work orders
- Identify and prepare cost estimates for change scope, trends, and extra work orders
- Escalate concerns to leadership identifying changes in execution
- Analyze change proposals from Contractor and compare with EWP (Engineering Work Package) / CWP (Construction Work Package) scope of work and quantities
- Perform multi-step, complex-level Benchmarking Analytics using internal data, external databases, external studies and publications, and external published reports
- Demonstrate multi-step complex calculations, synthesizing Benchmarking Analytics (seeing patterns, understanding them, drawing conclusions to support recommendations)
- Develop a sound basis for data normalization techniques applied to benchmarking reporting
- Make significant decisions and recommendations within authorized limits prescribed by supervisor and policy
Mandatory Skills:
- Undergraduate degree (or equivalent) related experience
- 5-7 years of Project Controls experience
- Exercises independent judgment and provides input/knowledge with other stakeholders
- Demonstrates proficiency of standards, practices, and procedures to work activities
- Demonstrates coaching and influencing skills
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- AACEI (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) Certified Cost Professional (recommended per posting, not mandatory)
