Job Description

Safety Consultant
On behalf of our client, Procom is actively seeking a Safety Consultant
The Safety Consultant is responsible for identifying, assessing, and reducing operational, safety, environmental, and compliance risks across the organization’s real property and workplace services portfolio. The role supports safe and effective workplace operations by coordinating risk management programs, compliance activities, emergency preparedness initiatives, and hazardous materials management while ensuring adherence to applicable legislation, corporate policies, and occupational health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments related to operational, financial, reputational, health, safety, environmental, and asset risks.
  • Identify, evaluate, mitigate, and report organizational risks using recognized risk management methodologies.
  • Develop mitigation and response plans for potential adverse events, service interruptions, and workplace disruptions.
  • Recommend strategies to minimize the likelihood and impact of incidents, project failures, and regulatory non-compliance.
  • Coordinate departmental compliance programs related to permits, inspections, and legislated activities.
  • Support and coordinate emergency preparedness planning, exercises, and response strategies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain programs related to compliance, hazardous materials management, workplace inspections, and hazard reporting.
  • Coordinate hazardous material management activities with internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors.
  • Maintain and update hazardous materials inventories and conduct sampling activities when required.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation regarding occupational health and safety legislation, corporate policies, and contractor compliance requirements.
  • Deliver training, education, and operational guidance related to compliance, risk management, and prime contractor responsibilities.
  • Conduct site visits and travel as required to support provincial operations and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to support organizational safety and risk objectives.


Skill Requirements:

Skills
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and risk management principles.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and apply risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience developing policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness planning and hazardous materials management.
  • Strong reporting, documentation, and trend analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to deliver training and provide operational guidance to diverse groups.

Experience
  • Minimum 3–6 years of directly related experience in:
    • Risk management
    • Project coordination
    • Program development
    • Compliance and safety program administration
    • Hazardous materials coordination
    • Occupational health and safety operations

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Occupational Health and Safety,
    • Environmental Science,
    • Risk Management,
    • or a related field.
  • Professional safety designation in one of the following:
    • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
    • Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH)
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
