Job Description

BMO is currently sourcing for a Scrum Master. This is a hybrid contract role in Toronto (candidate can be remote but must be able to come into the office).

Role Overview:

The Scrum Master will support BMO Financial Crimes Unit’s Fraud Technology team by facilitating agile delivery of enhancements within Fraud applications. The role involves coaching teams, optimizing delivery practices, and executing initiatives aligned with BMO FCU’s strategic objectives in a fast-paced FinTech environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Scrum Master for one or more squads; facilitate all agile ceremonies including Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Remove impediments and protect teams from external distractions to foster a high-velocity delivery culture.
  • Lead execution of initiatives using Agile methodology, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Manage Jira for backlog management, sprint planning, and delivery tracking; maintain transparent boards and dashboards.
  • Adhere to Agile Standards & Practices, PMLC, and SDLC; coordinate activities for production readiness per Mandatory Operational Readiness requirements.
  • Partner with Product Owners on backlog refinement, prioritization, and aligning outcomes to business goals.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to management; influence adoption of modern agile practices through coaching and workshops.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Agile Certification (CSM®, PSM® or equivalent); PMP® is an asset.
  • 7+ years in delivery roles with 5+ years as a Scrum Master in complex digital environments, preferably in FinTech and Fraud domains.
  • Expertise in Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), Agile Standards & Practices, PMLC, and SDLC.
  • Proficiency with Jira and Confluence; knowledge of modern CI/CD practices is a plus.
  • Proven track record leading large, cross-functional teams to successful delivery (scope, schedule, budget, quality).
  • Strong communication, analytical problem-solving, and influence skills to operate effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Located within reasonable commuting distance to the Greater Toronto Area office.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience in FinTech.
  • Experience with Pega platform.

  • Exhibits servant leadership through empathetic coaching and facilitation to unlock team performance.
  • Uses data-driven decision-making with metrics to guide prioritization and trade-offs.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across Product, Operations, Risk/Compliance, and Vendor partners.

Qualifications

Experience in FinTech: 0 - 5 years (Desired)
Experience with Pega platform.: 0 - 5 years (Desired)
