Senior SQL Server database consultant:
On behalf of our Consulting client, Procom is searching for a Senior SQL Server database consultant for a contract-to-hire role. This position is a remote position located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Senior SQL Server database consultant - Job Description:
The project involves stabilizing and optimizing two mission-critical SQL Server databases for a growing insurance carrier. The consultant will design a data warehousing strategy for future growth and help scale the platform to accommodate up to ten terabytes.

Senior SQL Server database consultant - Responsibilities:
• Own indexing, archiving, stored procedure management, and server administration for both databases.
• Set up alerting, troubleshoot production issues, and resolve deadlocks and locking conflicts.
• Investigate and fix long-running queries that lock production tables.
• Move reporting workloads off production systems during peak business hours.
• Assess the client's current backup-and-restore approach to reporting and recommend a proper data warehouse architecture.
• Provide SQL Server tuning recommendations and capacity planning as data grows.
• Advise on a future migration path from on-premises SQL Server to Azure-native data services.
• Document the environment and best practices as you learn the systems.

Senior SQL Server database consultant - Mandatory Skills:
• At least seven years administering SQL Server in a production, mission-critical environment.
• Hands-on experience with clustered SQL Server architectures and failover across data centers.
• Proven track record resolving deadlocks, locking conflicts, and long-running query issues.
• Experience designing or migrating to a data warehouse architecture.
• Working knowledge of Power BI, SSRS, and SSIS.
• Strong skills in query tuning, indexing strategy, and capacity planning.
• Familiarity with Azure-native data services and Microsoft Fabric.

Senior SQL Server database consultant – Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
• Prior contract-to-hire or staff augmentation engagements.
• Experience mentoring or interviewing database administrators.
• Microsoft certifications in SQL Server or Azure data platforms.

Senior SQL Server database consultant – Assignment Length:
Approximately 6 months  (fall 2026 to early April 2027).
