Strategic Communications Advisor

On behalf of our client, Procom is seeking a Strategic Communications Advisor for a one year engagement. 

Strategic Communications Advisor Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Strategic Communications Consultant will design and implement communication strategies in support of enterprise priorities, including transformation initiatives, regulatory development, and strategic planning – ultimately advancing WorkSafeBC’s vision and strategic goals and contributing to safer, healthier workplaces.

Working closely with divisional leadership, this role will act as a senior strategic advisor, translating complex and evolving work into clear, actionable communications that support alignment, decision-making, and understanding. The consultant will play a key role in enabling effective communication across internal and external audiences, with a focus on clarity, consistency, and responsiveness to emerging priorities.

The role supports a broad and evolving portfolio of work, including enterprise transformation (e.g. digital and service modernization initiatives), psychological health and safety, and other strategic priorities as they emerge. The consultant must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing shifting timelines, and supporting urgent requests from senior leadership while maintaining a high standard of quality and consistency.
 
Responsibilities
In this role within the Experience, Communications, Marketing and Insights (ECMI) department, you will work in a team supporting key enterprise-wide strategic projects. You will develop and implement effective change communications plans, internal awareness campaigns, and engagement strategies to support projects including enterprise transformation and key regulation development.

  • Provide strategic communications advice to directors and senior leaders to support divisional priorities and transformation initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver communication strategies and plans for enterprise transformation, regulatory initiatives, and other strategic priorities.
  • Develop and steward core messages and narratives, partnering with subject matter experts and leaders to translate complex, cross-functional work into clear, audience-specific messaging and ensure consistency across initiatives and stakeholder groups.
  • Coordinate communication activities, inputs and timelines across multiple initiatives to support alignment, sequencing, and visibility of enterprise work.
  • Provide rapid, high-quality communications support for emerging priorities and senior leadership requests.
  • Prepare executive-ready materials including briefing notes, presentations and reporting summaries that support decision-making and alignment.
  • Draft and edit engaging content across platforms ensuring all communications adhere to WorkSafeBC editorial standards, tone and style.
  • Support divisional and enterprise reporting cycles by gathering inputs, synthesizing insights, and producing concise, decision-ready materials.
  • Support activities such as workshops, leadership sessions and meetings with both content and coordination.
  • Monitor effectiveness of communications and recommend improvements based on feedback and engagement insights.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship and reinforce best practices in communications.

  Skill Requirements
  • 10+ years’ experience in strategic communications, marketing, or public affairs in complex or public sector organizations
  • Proven experience advising senior leaders (director level and above) on communications strategy and decision-making and experience developing executive-level materials (briefings, speaking notes, strategic plans)
  • Proven ability to design and implement end-to-end strategies in complex organizations (insight ? planning ? execution ? measurement).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills; ability to simplify technical content.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Strong experience supporting large-scale transformation or change initiatives
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools (SharePoint, Teams, intranet platforms) and analytics.
  • Experience using data and insights to measure effectiveness and inform strategy
  • A degree in Strategic Communications, Marketing, or Journalism, or another relevant discipline. We’ll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.
