Test Development Team Lead - Job Description

Our client is seeking a hands-on Test Development Team Lead to lead a small team of test developers validating a complex IoT collaboration platform. The platform spans embedded audio devices, mobile and web applications, cloud services, and Azure-based device connectivity. The role blends technical leadership, software development, quality engineering, and AI innovation, with a focus on building the next generation of AI-assisted test infrastructure.


Test Development Team Lead - Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Test Developers and Quality Engineers
  • Establish team objectives, priorities, and best practices
  • Foster a culture of automation, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate closely with Software Development, DevOps, Product Management, and Customer Experience teams
  • Participate in hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development

Test Strategy and Quality Leadership

  • Define and execute testing strategies across embedded systems, cloud services, web, and mobile applications
  • Lead release qualification and ensure high confidence in product quality before customer deployment
  • Drive improvements in test coverage, risk assessment, traceability, and testing effectiveness
  • Own quality metrics, dashboards, and reporting related to product readiness

Test Automation Development

  • Design and implement scalable automated testing frameworks
  • Expand automated coverage across embedded and device functionality, REST/SSE APIs, mobile and web applications, and cloud services
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
  • Partner with development teams to improve testability and observability

AI-Assisted Testing and Innovation

  • Lead the design and implementation of agent-based, AI-assisted testing infrastructure that can observe product behavior, analyze source code, interpret device and application logs, and consume telemetry and operational data
  • Automatically generate test plans and scenarios, identify test gaps and quality risks, and produce actionable recommendations for developers
  • Evaluate and integrate modern AI technologies, including LLMs, coding agents, and automated reasoning systems, into the testing lifecycle

Test Development Team Lead - Mandatory Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of software development, test automation, or quality engineering experience
  • 2+ years leading technical teams or mentoring engineers
  • Strong software development skills in one or more modern languages: TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or C#
  • Experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks
  • Experience testing distributed systems, cloud services, and APIs
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD practices and DevOps

 

Test Development Team Lead - Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Hands-on experience applying LLMs, coding agents, or AI-assisted tooling to testing
  • Experience testing IoT or embedded devices
  • Azure cloud experience
  • Experience with telemetry, logging, and observability tooling
  • Experience testing REST/SSE APIs and mobile applications
